Best Schools in Kamas, UT: A Parent's Guide for 2026

If you're moving to Kamas, UT with kids, the school question is pretty simple. Kamas is the hub of the South Summit School District. The district's elementary, middle and high schools all sit within a few blocks of each other on the east side of town, so kids in Kamas, Oakley, Francis, Marion, Woodland and Samak all end up on the same campus. That's a big part of the small-town feel here. Your kindergartner and your senior catch the bus to the same corner of town, and you'll see the same families in the stands at the Friday night game.

Silver Summit is the district's Park City campus, near Kimball Junction. Kamas addresses are zoned for the Kamas schools above, so a Kamas family who wants Silver Summit would apply through open enrollment (explained below).

Charter schools within driving distance of Kamas

Charter schools are free public schools that you apply to directly. When there are more applicants than seats, they usually hold a lottery. Kamas has no charter school in town, but two are about a 30-minute drive away in Park City:

How do school boundaries work in Kamas?

Each Utah school district draws attendance boundaries, and your home address decides which school your child is assigned to. In the Kamas Valley, it's about as easy as it gets. South Summit has one elementary, one middle and one high school in Kamas, so nearly every Kamas-area address in Summit County feeds those same three schools.

Is every home with a Kamas address in the South Summit School District?

Not always, and this one trips people up. Some homes on the Jordanelle side carry a Kamas mailing address but sit across the county line in Wasatch County. The Town of Hideout, for example, is in Wasatch County, so its students are in the Wasatch County School District, which is based in Heber City. Before you fall in love with a house up there, check which county and district it's in.

How do I check which schools a specific address feeds?

Use the district's own map, not a third-party website:

• South Summit addresses: Use the District Boundary Map linked on the South Summit registration page, or call the district office at 435-783-4301.
• Wasatch County addresses (Hideout and the Jordanelle side): Use the Wasatch County School District's school lookup.

Even after you check the map, confirm with the school before you write an offer. Boundaries can change, and a phone call takes five minutes.

Can my child attend a school outside our boundary?

Yes. Utah allows open enrollment, which South Summit calls "School Choice." Here's the South Summit calendar:

• November 15 through the first Friday in February: Early open enrollment applications accepted
• March 1: Late open enrollment applications accepted
• March 31: Early applicants notified of acceptance or denial
• The Friday before school starts in August: Late applicants notified

Acceptance depends on space at the school you want. The district decides in October each year which schools are open to transfers. You'll find the current School Choice flyer and application on the district registration page.

How do I register my child after we move?

New students register directly at their school. Each school's website has a registration link. Plan to bring photo ID, proof of residency, your child's original birth certificate, immunization records (or a Utah exemption form), and records from their previous school.

Are new schools being planned for the Kamas Valley?

South Summit is working on a long-range facilities plan. In October 2025, KPCW reported that the district had started a feasibility study for a possible new elementary school on district land in Francis, Oakley or Kamas. No bond or construction date has been set, so treat it as something to watch, not something to plan around.

How do schools affect home values in Kamas?

Inside the South Summit boundary, almost every home feeds the same schools, so you won't see the price gap between neighboring school zones that you'd see in bigger Wasatch Front districts. Here, prices depend on acreage, water shares, views, horse facilities and how close you are to Highway 32. The school line that does matter is the county line. On the Jordanelle side, a Kamas mailing address can come with Wasatch County schools and a different set of neighbors, amenities and HOA rules. That's worth understanding before you compare prices.

What's the best way to choose between homes and schools here?

Decide what matters most for your family first: walking distance to the Kamas campus, a short bus ride, acreage for animals, or open enrollment into Silver Summit or a Park City charter. Then let the home search follow from that. A house on a few acres in Francis and a house a few blocks from South Summit High give your kids very different daily routines, even though both are zoned for the same schools.
