Best Schools in Oakley, UT: A Parent's Guide for 2026

by Brooke Bailey

If you're looking at homes in Oakley, UT, here's the first thing to know about schools: every Oakley address is in the South Summit School District. There's no school building inside Oakley itself. Oakley kids ride or drive about 10 minutes down the road to the South Summit campus in Kamas, where the elementary, middle and high schools sit within a few blocks of each other.

That makes school planning here simpler than in most Utah towns. Below is every public and charter school serving Oakley families, then the questions parents ask me most.

Public Schools Serving Oakley, UT (South Summit School District)

School Grades Address
South Summit Elementary School Preschool–4 535 East 300 South, Kamas, UT 84036
South Summit Middle School 5–8 355 East 300 South, Kamas, UT 84036
South Summit High School 9–12 45 South 300 East, Kamas, UT 84036
Silver Summit Schools (Silver Summit School K–5, Silver Summit Academy 6–12) K–12 6407 North Business Loop Road, Park City, UT 84098

South Summit Elementary offers preschool for 3- and 4-year-olds and a Dual Language Immersion program.

South Summit High has a Career and Technical Education program. Its top pathways include Animal and Veterinary Science, Plant Science, Health Science, Automotive and Graphic Design, and students earn industry certificates in areas like Welding and Animal Science. For a ranch-country family, that's a real draw.

All three Kamas schools are the Wildcats.

Silver Summit Schools is also run by South Summit School District, but it sits on the Silver Creek side near Park City and serves a separate attendance area. Oakley addresses aren't in that area, so for an Oakley family, Silver Summit is a school-choice option through open enrollment (more on that below). Silver Summit Academy also launched an online program for grades 7–12 in 2026.

Charter Schools Near Oakley, UT

Charter schools are free public schools that families apply to, usually through a lottery. These are the closest ones Oakley families use:

School Grades Address
Weilenmann School of Discovery K–8 (plus preschool) 4199 Kilby Rd, Park City, UT 84098
Soldier Hollow Charter School K–8 3444 W 3000 S, Charleston, UT 84032
Winter Sports School 9–12 4251 Shadow Mountain Dr., Park City, UT 84098

Weilenmann is tuition-free and is adding a PEAK program for grades 4–8 in 2026–27, built for kids training seriously in a sport or the arts. Soldier Hollow focuses on outdoor, place-based learning and has a cross-country ski and biathlon program. Winter Sports School runs April through November so athletes can train all winter.

How do school boundaries work in Oakley?

Utah students are assigned to a school based on their home address. For Oakley that's easy: the whole town is South Summit School District, and Oakley addresses feed South Summit Elementary, South Summit Middle and South Summit High in Kamas. You won't find a street in Oakley where the neighbors on one side go to a different elementary school than the other.

How can I check which schools a specific address feeds?

The district publishes a boundary map showing the district line and the Silver Summit attendance area. Search the address, then confirm with the school before you count on it. This matters most for properties on the edges of Oakley, up Weber Canyon, or near the Peoa and Browns Canyon side, where you're close to district lines. I'm always glad to check an address for you before you write an offer.

Can my child attend a school outside our boundary?

Yes. Utah has open enrollment, which lets you apply to any public school with room.

  • Early open enrollment runs November 15 through the first Friday in February for the next school year.
  • South Summit School District posts each school's capacity in mid-November and sends early-round decisions by March 31.
  • Late applications are accepted starting March 1, but they depend on space.

The district's registration page has links for each school. Charter schools run their own application windows and lotteries, so check each school's site. Weilenmann, for example, opens new-student enrollment in January 2027.

How do I register a new student?

Start at the district's registration page, which links to each school. If you're moving mid-year, call the school directly. Small districts are usually happy to walk you through it. The district office is at 285 East 400 South in Kamas, 435-783-4301.

Is South Summit planning new schools?

The district is working on a long-term facilities plan, and in October 2025 KPCW reported a feasibility study for a possible new elementary school on district land in Francis, Oakley or Kamas. No bond or build date has been announced. Voters turned down bonds for a new high school in 2017 and 2019, so this is one to watch rather than count on.

How do schools affect home values in Oakley, UT?

Here's the honest answer: because all of Oakley feeds the same schools, school boundaries don't create price differences between Oakley neighborhoods the way they do in bigger cities. What moves value here is acreage, water rights, views, horse facilities, and how far you are from Highway 32.

What schools do affect is who buys here. A small district where kids grow up together from preschool through graduation is a big reason families choose the Kamas Valley over Park City. A home that works for a family, close to the bus route and with year-round road access, will always have buyers.

What's it like for kids growing up here?

I'm a North Summit mom myself, so I know rural Summit County school life. It's Friday night football, FFA, kids showing livestock, and a high school rodeo community that turns into family. Kids here know how to work, and they know the adults in town know their names.
